Pollard's Bizarre Parole Restrictions

kirschen, Dry Bones cartoon, Jonathan Pollard, Pollard, America, parole, antisemitism,
According to Hamodia:
NEW YORK - Nearly four months after a federal judge ruled that the United States Parole Commission must explain why it has placed broad and severe parole restrictions on Jonathan Pollard, his attorneys have filed a brief with the same judge, saying that the Commission has failed to do so, and urging that it be ordered to lift the restrictions.

The “Supplemental Notice of Action issued by the Commission fails in every conceivable respect to address the clear mandate of this Court,” Pollard’s pro bono attorneys, Jacques Semmelman and Eliot Lauer, argue in new court documents that were obtained by Hamodia.

At a hearing last December, Judge Katherine B. Forrest of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York remanded the case back to the Parole Commission for “further development of the factual basis” behind their reasoning, and specifically to identify whether Pollard has, after all these years, retained “in his head” secret information that could endanger the public.-more

America's Democracy

Dry Bones cartoon, Kirschen, Dry Bones, Democracy, Trump, Dry Bones Haggadah,
We Jews, as a nation, have come down through history, watching the rise and fall of a long series of civilizations. Watching the faltering of America's democracy both on campuses and at political rallies is disheartening. Once again we will sit around our Seder tables and ponder the magic of our survival and continuity.

A place for Bernie

Dry Bones cartoon, Kirschen, Dry Bones, Haggadah, Passover, holiday, Pessah, Dry Bones Haggadah, Bernie, Sanders, Bernie Sanders, politics, Pesidenncy, campaign, the four sons,
The purpose of the Passover Haggadah is to teach us how to pass our culture on to the next generation of Jews. The wisdom of the Haggadah is to identify the four types of children that make up that next generation. And the cleverness of the Haggadah is that it recognizes that one of the archetypes we must deal with is those that are "wicked". We don't excommunicate them. We don't pretend that they don't exist. They have their place with us as we gather at our Seders. They have always been with us. They always will.

Bernie Inflates

Dry Bones cartoon, Kirschen, Sanders, Presidency, politics, Palestinians, Israel,Middle East, Bernie, campaign,
According to the Times of Israel:
Massively inflating toll, Sanders suggests Israel killed ‘over 10,000 innocents’ in Gaza
Democratic hopeful acknowledges he’s not sure of figures, but accuses Israel of indiscriminate attacks, says it must improve ties with Palestinians to improve US ties

WASHINGTON — Massively amplifying even Hamas’s own figures, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders suggested Israel had killed “over 10,000 innocent” Palestinian civilians in Gaza during the war there in the summer of 2014, and said the high casualties were the result of an “indiscriminate” Israeli military offensive. Hamas health authorities in Gaza put the civilian death toll at about a seventh of the figure cited by Sanders; Israel puts it lower still.
In an interview with the New York Daily News editorial board published on Monday, the Vermont senator acknowledged that he did not have the exact figures memorized, but twice said he believed that the Palestinian civilian death count surpassed 10,000, and excoriated Israel for what he deemed its disproportionate use of force.
“Anybody help me out here, because I don’t remember the figures, but my recollection is over 10,000 innocent people were killed in Gaza. Does that sound right?” he said first
Told that the number was “probably high,” Sanders responded: “I don’t have it in my number… but I think it’s over 10,000. My understanding is that a whole lot of apartment houses were leveled,” he went on. “Hospitals, I think, were bombed. So yeah, I do believe and I don’t think I’m alone in believing that Israel’s force was more indiscriminate than it should have been.”

Israel Diaries Review

Dry Bones cartoon, Kirschen, Dry Bones, Kirschen, Haggadah, Passover, holiday, review, Dry Bones Passover Haggadah, Sheri Oz just published a review of the Dry Bones Passover Haggadah at her popular Israel Diaries site. Here it is:
I’m Reading From THIS Passover Haggadah This Year

BY SHERI OZ · APRIL 2, 2016

There’s still time to order your Haggadah for the Seder this year. The Dry Bones Passover Haggadah is a special treat. You get to spend the time with Dry Bones and that is always fun.
I can imagine my granddaughter sitting on my lap looking at the comics while I follow along the text of the Seder. That is, if other kids don’t grab Haggadah and pass it around the table. Might be a good idea to order a few extra copies just in case.

One thing I particularly liked about this volume — and I don’t know if Yaakov Kirschen thought about it like this – is how the preface is so personal. Makes me almost feel like he is talking to me, letting me know something about the man behind the famous comics. The fact that he lives just down the road (a long road, I admit, the coastal road to be exact – he’s in Tel Aviv and I’m in Haifa) feels that much more personal to me.

Kirschen tells us how he came to put this book together and what he hopes we will get from using it at our own Seders. He also shares his decision making regarding various aspects of his Haggadah. Here is an example

Telling us that his decisions were based upon how things felt to him made me smile because it is something I can relate to in my own life.

I thought you might like to see what some of the pages look like so I copied two pages with different design elements:
